The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence
The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence written by Stan Lee and Stuart
Moore, and illustrated by Andie Tong follows a boy named Steven Lee and his journey through the Zodiac
Wonders. When Steven wanders from his class tour group and follows their
suspicious tour guide down a set of dark stairs into an underground chamber, his
life completely changes. Steven joins a group of Zodiac-enhanced teenagers as
they compete in a tug-of-war battle for power with Maxwell, leader of the corrupt
Vanguard.
During his class field trip to
China Steven notices two particularly weird things. One, his tour guide seems very
distracted, almost anxious about something, like she’s not supposed to be here.
Two, the blood curdling screams coming from the other side of the exhibit hall.
When Steven follows the tour guide, and sneaks into the underground chamber he
discovers Maxwell in the middle of dangerous attempt to harness the entirety of
the Zodiac powers. Caught in a duel between the tour guide, better known as
Jasmine, and Maxwell, Steven unintentionally receives the power of the Tiger. With
his new powers Steven bands together with Jasmine to recruit the remaining Zodiacs
and stop Maxwell from becoming all powerful.
Overall, I thought this book was alright.
I had trouble getting past the first couple of pages, but when I did, I couldn’t
put the book down. There were a couple confusing character details, and I
thought it was a little weird how calm and uncaring Steven’s parents were. Their
kid’s in another country, the building he was in almost collapsed, and he calls
to tell them he’s going off on his own and his parents don’t even blink an eye.
This applies to a lot of the other Zodiac-wielding teenagers too. Besides
finding that detail a little weird I didn’t have any problems with the story or
plot. Something I thought was really neat were the drawings inserted throughout
the story. It gives the reader a better picture of the characters and setting
details. The pictures also make the book feel more engaging and enjoyable to
read. This story wasn’t basic or extremely cliché and it’s a fun read for when
you’re bored. Though, the ending leaves off on a semi-cliffhanger … so be
warned!

Wow I did not know Stan Lee wrote novels, especially about the Chinese zodiac. This book seems really fascinating. It actually reminds me of not 1, but 2 of Jackie Chan's movie/shows, the first is CZ12 since their both about zodiacs, but the more relatable one is Jackie Chan Adventures which is a cartoon about zodiac powers. I loved both of those shows so if The Zodiac Legacy is anything like them, I'm sure I'll be hooked right away. Though I am bit scared about the ending though.
